'Varsity kicked off with tlie sun. in*their faces, aud for some time play hovered in Maroons’ twenty-five. Giles speeded for the goal, Robertson bringing him down, a force resulting. Still keeping up the attack, the combined team brought play back to Maroons’ twenty-five. Geazley picked up smartly and dropped a potted goal. Sydenham-Lyttelton 4, ’Varsity 0This livened up ’Varsity and play returned to Blues’ twenty-five, where the . latter were penalised for off-side play, Campbell kicking a goal. Sydenham-Lyttelton 4. 'Varsity 3. A few minutes later ’Varsity heeled the ball, out to Dewar, who passed to Te Awarua, the latter returning it to Dewar, who scored, Campbell failing with the kick. The Maroons were passing with more precision and Coope.r obtaining possession centred. Langbein, following up fast., just beat Smythe. scoring under the posts, Campbell adding the major points. On resuming Langbein intercepted, and after a fine run, passed to Te Awarua, who transferred to Caldcr, the latter scoring. Campbell failed with the kick. ’Varsity 14. Sydenham-Lyttelton 4. Both teams were putting some vim into the rushes, deadly tackling; stopping many promising tries. Sydcnliam were penalised and Campbell kicked a fine goal. 'Varsity 17. Sydenham 4. The combined team attacked strongly and carried play to Maroons’ quarter. Here Sargentina got possession, broke through and scored. Smythe adding the major points. 'Varsity 17, SydenhamLyttelton 9. Keeping up the pressure, the Blue attacked strongly, and Dunlop scored, Smythe failing with the kick. Time was called with play in ’Varsity’s twentyfive. Final score—‘Varsity 17. The scorers were:—For Varsity: J. O. Riddell, K. G. Archer (2). J. M. Willoughby and J. M. Stewart; for Technical: C. Price (2), L. Mardon converted one, and K. Little. Playing on their, own ground, Old Boys snatched a last-minute victory from ’Varsity B. the final score being 14 points to 12. For the winners, Johnstone and Richards (2) scored. Graham kicked a penalty goal and Smith converted one try. For Varsity Songster and Wilson scored. M’Clatchie potted a goal and converted one Playing at Linwood Park Marists defeated Linwood by 12 points to S. O Loughliu, M’Cormick, O’Connell and Bateman scored tries for the winners.
