AUCKLAND, May 20. .1 reply to a statement made at the Educational Institute's Conference in Wellington that the trainees of teachers at the training colleges were walking the streets of Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch out of employment, tho secretary of the Education Board stated that 103 training college students left the college on January 31. Ninety-one were placed in positions on February 1, and have been in continuous employment since. Of the twelve who were not employed on February 1, most of thorn were offered positions., but declined to take them because the positions were in the country. No teacher who is willing to take a position in the country, has been out of employment for more than three weeks during the year, except one whose home was so remote that hia services were not read sly available for relieving work. All the 103 ex-students are now in permanent positions. The board has been studiously careful to safeguard the interests of training college students, «ind has refrained from filling positions vacant during the last four months of the year with permanent teachers if the positions were suitable for training college tudents
