THE OLD COACHING DAYS.

An esteemed correspondent, who forwarded the photograph reproduced on this page,, writes as follows Sir.—ln connection with Mr Hawker’s account re Old New Brighton, the enclosed photograph may be of interest. Tile elderly gentleman on top of the coach is the late IX W. Hamilton senr. proprietor of the New Brighton Hotel from 1878, and for some years later, when failing health caused him to retire. The driver is IF. IV. Hamilton jnr. The third person is not known to me. Air Hamilton and his family arrived in Lyttelton in 1856. and were residents of the portion of New Brighton now known as Burwood from 1860. The first, coach between New Brighton and Christohnrch was driven for some years by a Mr Millett.
