A representative meeting of business men pledged themselves to take immediate action to secure regular employment for all fit returned soldiers and fitting work for maimed menThey appointed a working committee and subscribed £IOOO to provide sustenance for needy soldiers while employment was being secured. The Lord Mayor promptly suppressed an attempt to utilise the meeting for political purposes.
