The vessel Ava-s to leave San Francisco on May 15 for Apia direct, en route to Napier, Wellington and Australian ports. The R.M.S. Ma.rama. en route from Wellington to San Francisco, arrived at Rarotonga. last Sunday morning, and continued her voya-ge to Papeete the same afternoon. The Mnra.ma is due at San Francisco on May 20. The Flora left Rarotonga on Monday INTERCOLONIAL SERVICE. The Union Company’s steamer Moeraki, which. arrived at Wellington early on Tuesday morning from Sydney. Avas delayed a day through bad Aveather. The Moeraki cleared Sydney Heads at 4.30 p.m. last Thursday, and up till Friday evenirg experienced light south-west winds. On Saturday morning the wind went round to the east, and increased during the day till Saturday evening, when it blew a moderate gale. The seas increased, and by noon on Sunday the Moeraki A\as steaming in th© teeth of a heavygale. Heavy rain showers fell, .and the a\eather was so misty at times that it wa3 impossible to see more- than a ship’s length ahead. Conditions improved or» Monday morning, and by Monday evening the gale had moderated. Stephen's ■ Island was passed at 10.55 p.m on Monday. and the vessel achored in the stream at 4.5 o'clock on Tuesday morning. No damage was done by the heavy seas which 'contfinuouslv broke over the steamer’s bows, and the Moeraki rode the gale well, acting tip to her reputation as a good seaboat. The anniversary services of the South brook Methodist Church uere held on Sunday, the preacher being the Bev A. N. Scotter in th© morning, and the Bev O A. Foston in the evening. Special hymns were sung. Mr C. R. Thwaites was at the organ. At the morning serrioe a solo was sung by Mr Salkeld and at th© evening service Mrs T. J. Withers sang a solo. “January is not tho right season for shooting godwit,” said Mr C. A. Whitney at the annual meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society. He explained that the godwit arrived from Siberia about that time, and had not properly settled down in its feeding ground. Tt was in poor condition, and was not worth eating. The birds were very tired after tbeir long flight, and about eighty could be knocked over in one shot.
