NAMES OF STREETS.

SEVERAL ALTERATIONS. The By-laws Committee reported ; last night that the Addington Bur- ! gesses’ Association had suggested that the name of Collins Street should he altered to Simeon Street. As the two streets were practically continuous, the committee recommended that the request should he granted. Regarding the request that the name of the portion !of Lincoln Road lying between the Hospital Corner and Moorhous© Avenue should be altered to Hagley Avenue, the committee had been advised that the Ricoarton Borough Council could not see its way to alter the name of Hagley Street, but had no objection to the proposed alteration of the name of part of Lincoln Road. The Waimairi County Council had been asked if it had any objection, but no reply had yet been received. The committee recommened that the alteration in the name should he made, provided no objection was received from the Wat mairi County C-ouncil. Councillor H. Hunter, in opposing the proposal, said that the unwisdom of having different names for parts of the same road had become apparent in Iho case of Ferry Road, which had been Lower High Street, Ferry Road. Ashbourne Street, Regent Street, and so on. Councillor A. Ma nhire said that Lincoln Road could very well start at the South Belt. At present visitors wishing to go to the Hospital on Lincoln Road took a Lincoln Road ear, and 't landed them at the Asylum. ‘They will want another part called Addington Avenue,” said Councillor Hunter. Councillor F. R. Cooke said that persons who were a bit queer would naturally wish to avoid stating that they lived down Lincoln Road. (Laughter.) He sympathised with Councillor Manhire. The clause was adopted.
