PARACHUTE DESCENT.

♦ SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE SLIGHT ACCIDENT TO MR EASTWOOD. Mr A. E. Eastwood, at the Addington Show Grounds, this afternoon, made a successful paradhute descent from a height of about 3000 feet. He was taken up in an aeroplane by Captain Euan Dickson, and. dropped from it by means of two parachutes. The north-east wind that was blowing caused him to miscalculate his landingplace, with the result that he came down on top of a oottage in Hilhnorten. opposite the chickory works. about half a mile from where 5000 people were waiting for him on the Show Grounds. He sustained a sprain to his left ankle as lie struck the roof of the cottage, but otherwise was uninjured. The following are the results of the tug-of-war (first prize £4O, second prize £lo)First round-—West End beat Bodega Cafe by one foot. Second round—Mir Josepli Hamflet’s Garage team beat the Islington team by one inch. Third round— Bodega Cafe beat Mr Hamlet’s Garage team by quarter of an inch. The musical chairs competition for cycles was won by T. E. Cairns, T. Smith being second.
