* A State home for aged people was advocated by Mr Wvvern Wilson, S.M«, in the Magistrate’s Court today. He was dealing with the case of an old woman charged with being an incorrigible rogue. “ There should be a State home for these old people whose only crime it is that they are poor and have no friends,” said th© Magistrate. At present we have to convict and discharge them on condition that they enter a home, and they ar© not compelled to remain there when they ar© tired of it, as they quickly become. There should be a State home for these old people where they would be under some restraint and kept there. But it is everybody’s business and I suppose nobody’s in particular, and nobodyjs special advantage to provide such a home, and the thing drifts on. I have stressed it before and I do so again. There is a crying need for a State home for the aged. Regulations might b© gazetted making some of th© homes under tho Charitable Aid Board State homes.”
