AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The council of tho Canterbury Automobile Association met last night; present— Mesers R. W. Lochhead (chairman), D. .Vl'Millan, F. W. Johnston. P. 8. Nicholls. A. D. Dobson, J. Wood, F. D. Sargent, J. Henderson. J. S. Hawkes, W. H. Nicholson, N. M. Orbell, J. R. Brown, Dr P. S. Foster and Dr E. Teichelmann (West Coast). In reference to the association's comI laint concerning the carriers’ telephone box at the Armagh Street Bridge, the Town Clerk replied that the matter had been considered by the By-laws Committee, and they would not interfere in the mat ter. Mr Dobson reported that he had gone into tho matter, and it seemed that if the telephone were removed it would organise the carriers' stand. The tele- » hone's present location was the only one in which no view was obstructed. Mr Johnston said that the stand should be removed if its situation placed even one life in danger. At present there was no ooubt that such danger existed when the willows along the river were in full leaf. Tho bridge itself was a menace owing to the big slabs of stone on either side of it. Mr Nicholls said that he waß of the Bame opinion as Mr Johnston, and he thought it \|ould not be advisable for the association to drop the matter. On the motion of Mr Sargent, it was decided that the association is strongly of opinion that the City Council is taking a wrong view of the matter, and urges that steps be taken in the matter. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Johnston, Sargent, Hawkes and Dobson, was appointed to meet a deputation from the City Council. The Pioneer Sports Club invited members of the association to join in a speed judging competition at Mount Pleasant. The invitation was referred to the Social Committee. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., wrote stating ihat a telephone would be installed at the Healey Hotel. The Springs County Council wrote agreeing to contributo towards the cost of maintaining the Selwyn ford; In reply to further correspondence concerning the railway 'Crossing danger, it was decided to make a request to the District Traffic, Manager of Railways that a reasonable warning should be given by all tfains when approaching the crosaings. The following new members were elected:—Messrs J. Angus, J. Fitzgibbon, B. M’Evedy, T. Torrens and Mrs C. E. Deans.
