IN HEAVY SEAS.
ULIMAROA MUFFETED. (Per Press Association.) AVELLINGTON, January 5. The Ulirnaroa encountered a hurricane on Monday and Tuesday. The engines were reduced to half speed. Heavy seas came aboard and washed out the officers’ quarters on the top deck and smashed deck and stern lights, canvas screens on the bridge and decks were blown to ribbons, and wooden lifeboat covers were blown away. Spray reached- the mainmast headlight eight feet above deck. Two passengers and a seaman sustained minor injuries.
