Bishop Sadlier, of Nelson, ie on a visit to Christchurch. Recent arrivals iu Christchurch inlcude Air Todd Alartin (Sydney), Air J. Rose (Wellington), Air S. Jsuji (Japan) and Air W. AI. Neumegan (Auckland). Air 11. J. Thornton, secretary of the Taranaki Education Board, has been selected from 69 applicants for the position of secretary of tho Nelson Education Board. The friends of Air and Airs A. W. Scarr, of New Brighton, will b© interested to know that Airs Scan* successfully underwent an operation in London recently, and is progressing favourably. The death has occurred at Nelson of Airs Frances Edwards, relict of the late Air Henry Edwards. She arrived in New Zealand in the ship Lord Auckland in February, 1842, with her parents, Air and Airs John Nixon. Air W. E. Leadley, secretary of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, lias decided to stand for the 1 ram way Board as an independent candidate for the Central Ward. He has been nominated by Dr A. J. Orchard and Air J. B. Alerrett. Out of seventeen applications, Air L. J. Wild, M.A., B.Sc., has been appointed principal of a new technical and agricultural high school at Feilding. Air Wild at present is on tho staff of the Christchurch Truinng College. Previously he was at Lincoln College. Alajor E. J. Hulbert, D. 5.0., Reserve of Officers, has been appointed major in the 6th (Alanawatu) Alounted Rifles, with seniority from April 12, 1916. Alajor Hulbert served with distinction at the front throughout the late war, and was recently honoured by the War Office, London, with the offer of an appointment in the British Arm y.
