THE METROPOLITAN MARKET. TO-DAY’S SALE. As there will be no market at the Addington yards next week (show weeki the market to-day was a double one. However, the entries of stock in some lines were not equal to double market figures. There were less than 400 head of fat cattle forward, and as a result prices showed an advance on late rates. The entry of fatsheep was large, about fourteen races Jbeing forward, and there also was a fair number of spring lambs entered. Store sheep were yarded in small numbers and the market was brighter. STORE SHEEP. There was a small entry of store sheep, ewes, wethers and hoggets being fairly evenly represented. A few lines of shorn sheep were forward, including some from the Chatham Islands. The market throughout was distinctly brighter than last week, more especially for wethers and hoggets, which were freely competed for at prices in many cases 2s to 3s per bead in advance of recent rates. Only a few lines were passed at auction, and these were in cases where vendors expected particularly high figures. Values were Fair half-bred ewe hoggets 14s Id to 14s 4d. Inferior wether hoggets 8s 7d. Cull mixed sex hoggets 8s sd. Shorn wether hoggets 7s 9d to 8s 2d. Good shorn four, six and eight-tooth wethers 14s to 14s 7d. ‘ Ordinary four and six-tooth wethers 13s 6d to 14s. Aged ewes and lambs 8s 4d (all counted). The following sales were made: Ewes.--28 aged half-bred and 29 lambs at Ss -Id (all counted), 80 sound and failingmouth and 83. lambs at 7s 6d (all counted). Wethers-34 four and six-tooth at 14s; 67 shorn four, six and eight-tooth at 14s< 33 four, six an<l eight-tooth at 14s 7d: 110 four and six-tooth at 13s 6d. Hoggets—24o half-bred ewe at 14s Id to 14s 4d; 156 half-bred wether at 8s 7d: 73 cull mixed sex at 8s 3d; 80 shorn wether at 8s 2d; 70 shorn wether at 7s; 80 shorn at 7s 9,d. FAT CATTLE. Although the market to-day was a double one the entry of fat cattle was not large, there being only about 380 head forward, compared with 320 last week. The sale opened briskly and bidding was animated. As prices showed an advance of frpm 20s to 30s per head 011 last, week's rates. Taken all round the quality of the stuff was better than has been the case at recent sales, some prime wellfinished beasts being forward, including some good southern cattle.
