PARLIAMENTARY.

DOINGS In the house. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, November 1. ASSISTED EMIGRANTS. There have been some references to immigrants who come to this Dominion as destitute persons, but Mr W. H. Field (Otaki), in the House of Representatives, bad a, question to ask which suggested that s©me immigrants were tourists. He asked if it were true, as had been stated, that some of the assisted immigrants were taking advantage of assisted passages to obtain a cheap trip, and after travelling round New Zealand went elsewhere. The Hon W. Nosworthy said that, so far as the information which ho had received went, there was not the slightest truth in the statement. A POINTED REFERENCE. When discussing patients of mental hospitals, speakers should be careful to use an impersonal mode of speech. Mr W. D. Lysnar (Gisborne) was not too careful to-day. Mr R. A. Wright (Wellington Suburbs) asked some question when Mr Lysnar was speaking, and Mr Lysnar continued liig. explanation in this form ; “ won’t allow you to get out. They think you might do something dangerous.” But it was not until Air Lysnar emphasised hia point by ft wave of his hand: “ The- sav there is a patient that should rot be allowed out,” that the person indicated by the gesture, M? Howard (Christchurch South), protested against such a pointed reference.
