RIFLE MEETING SUSPENDED. [From Orct CoßßisroNinsNT.l WELLINGTON, November 1. For reasons of economy the Dominion Rifle Association’s championship meeting at Trentham is to be postponed this year. The Minister of Defence informed the House that in accordance with his promise lie had cut down the Defence estimates, curtailing aviation and suspending training camps, though he regretted the necessity for the latter. In reducing the estimates providing for rifle shooting lie had to consider whether the existing privileges of clubs should be curtailed or the Dominion meeting suspended, as was done thrice during recent years. He had come to the conclusion that it could be dropped without loss of efficiency and would cause a saving of £6OOO. This would affect oiiljl 600 riflemen, whereas restriction of privileges to clubs would prejudice ten times that number, therefore it had been decided not to curtail club privileges. They would get the same amount of ammunition and be able to hold local meetings.
