Persistent rumours circulating in civic circles for some time have been brought to a head by a definite statement that one alderman in the Citv Council accepted £SO as one instalment ©f £7OO to be paid as commission if a certain wood block contract was engineered through the council. It is underUtood that the Cabinet is considering the appoiiitment of u Royal Commission of Inquiry. An actijyn for libel is also contemplated.
