CHILDREN IN PICTURE THEATRES.
EXPERIENCE OF MANAGERS The discussion which took place at the City Council last evening in regard to the interference with children at picture show's was referred to at a meeting of picture theatre managers to-day, when the opinion was expressed that the proposals made were not justified by the facts. We have received the following letter: — Dear Sir, —With reference to the discussion in the City Council last evening on interference with children in picture theatres, we, the undersigned picture theatre managers with experience extending over many years, desire to state that it is evident from the tone of the discussion that the councillors have only a very limited knowledge of conditions in the theatres of this city. One wqttld be led to believe from their remarks that these cases are of frequent occurrence, but these are the facts: —During the last nine years in Christchurch only one case (the recent one) has been proved to have happened and two only have been reported to the managers. When one considers that during the last nine years over twelve million people have passed through the Christchurch theatres, one can realise that the picture theatre has been exceptionally free from anything of the nature. Trusting you will do the theatres the justice of publishing this letter.—We are, etc., H. WATERS, Everybody’s Theatre W. JAGG AR, Queen’s Theatre A. ROWLEY Strand Theatre HAROLD E. RIGHT-ON, Liberty and Empire Theatres E. J. PEGG. Grand Theatre V. M. BEEBE, Crystal Palace A. W. LANE, Lyttelton Pictures and Kaiapoi. O, W. B. ANDERSON, Secretary Combined Picture Theatres Association. November 1.
