Sir lan Hamilton, in his book. “ The Soul and Body of the Army,” urges tho appointment of a minister of defence to control sea, land and air forces with a united general staff upon which the fo?*cos of the Commonwealth and the Dominions should be strongly represented. The sequel to this unity of control wuld be the establishment of a united sendees staff college, replacing separate staff colleges, where the students would receive general instruction in the works of all services. Finally at the end of the term they would decide in which service they might specialise. In this way officers of either sendee would acquire knowledge of sister service*.
