SCHOOL PROPAGANDA.

TO THE EDITOR. vSir.—Mr Poverill failed to get away behind the camouflage which ho put up in his reply to my first assault, so now lie has desperately mustered up what forces he has available. Last time, if I remember what I read, Mr Per ©rill reproached me for “ personalities.’ 1 Now he wants to discover who I am. Well, I don't want to indulge in personalities. I am concerned solely with principles, and would not have used Mr Poverill’s name if it had not been unavoidable. The fact that Mr Poverill is secretary of tho School Committees’ Association as well as a member of the Education Board does not make his position less invidioiis when he, being secretary ©f tho Licensed Victuallers’ Association, also raises his voice against alleged antiliquor propaganda in the schools. On© should not try to serve too many masters. Tho School Committees’ Association is to be congratulated upon having as their secretary ono so zealous lest the anti-liquor people should influence the youthful mind. He did not even -wait to get the committee’s mandate before lie took action. But he did not get Unanimous support when ho gave an account of his deeds, although they balked at repudiating his action at that stage. However, it was not to this action, but to his words at the Canterbury Education Board's meeting, that J first referred. Perhaps Mr Peverill forgot where he used tho words referred to. Mr Peverill’s closing taunt troubles mo not at all. Perhaps next time he will not have any electors to lx* so piously thankful about, anyhow.—l am, etc., , HANDS OFF THE CHILDREN. L
