Phelps, Director of Labour Statistics in t>he Massachusetts Labour Department, in giving evidence before the Unemployment Committee, declared that the workers’ refusal to accept reduced wages was one of the main causes of the present position. H<> added that many workers refused to take jobs which they did not like.
