The Louth by-election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Mr T. Wintringham resulted as follows: Votes. Mrs Wintringham (Independent Liberal) • * • S3BO Mr Hutchings . . . 7595 Mr George * . . 3573 At the by-election on June 3, 1920, Mr T. Wintringham (Independent Liberal) polled 8859 votes and Mr C. H Turner (Coalition-Unionist) 7354. Mrs Wintringham is the widow of the late member. The only other woman occupying a seat in the House of Commons is Lady Astor, who represents Plymouth. Slie was elected when her husband succeeded to the title of Viscount, which necessitated his retirement from the House of Commons.
