RICCARTON TRAMLINE.

A BOROUGH PROTEST. The decision of the Christchurch Tramway Board to duplicate the Riccarton tram-line to Clarence Road only, instead of carrying tho duplication to Church. Corner, was referred to at last right’s meeting of the Riccarton Borough Council by the Alayor (Mr j A. I>. Ford). The Alayor said that at the time the ! Tramway Board asked the ratepayers of | Riccarton to vote iu favour of joining the other districts, one of the special inducements put forward was that the board intended to lay a double track from the Hospital to Church Corner. That special inducement was largely responsible for the decision of the electors to join the other tramway districts. and in A'iew of this fact he considered the least the Tramway Board could do would be to keep its promise to (he Riccarton electors. The council did not oppose the proposal because it believed the double track would bo sufficient compensation for the loss of their separate identity as a district. He moved that the town clerk bo instructed to Avrite to the Tramway Board pointing out that the board had promised to lay a double track to Church Corner, and asking it to have the work of duplication continued to that point. The motion was seconded by Councillor A. E, Steere, and carried unanimously.
