LATE SPORTING.

RICCARTON NOTES.

Saturday The heavy rain during the night, with the fall of snow early this rooming to top it off, left the Riccarton tracks'in very bad order this morning. It was intended to open a grass track for the final gallops, but this was countermanded, and the only track available was the sand. A number of trainers took their horses to the course and gave them steady work, but others were content to exercise their charges on the road. A grass track will be open for last work to-morrow morning and it is expected that most of the horses engaged at next week’s meeting will be along fast. METROPOLITAN TROTS, POSTPONED TILL MONDAY The lain which fell last night and this morning, followed by an hour of enow, left the trotting track at Addington in a very bad state. The committee of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club held a special meeting at nine o’clock, and as a result of a report regarding the track, it was decided to postpone the opening of the club’s meeting until Monday. Similar action had to be taken a year ago, when heavy rain fell on the Saturday fixed for the first day of the meet.ng. Handicaps for the second day’s racing will be declared on Tuesday morning and acceptances will close at noon on Tuesday. NOTES.
