FIRE.
HOTEL DAMAGED. (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, August o. About 4.35 this morning a fire broke out in the business quarters of the town. It commenced in a fruit shop occupied by Mervyn Patchett, and thence spread on the one side to the tobacconist shop of Gordon Sowman, and on the other to the Masonic Hotel! Both shops were completely destroyed and the hotel was badly gutted in the upstairs portion. The insurances are as follow Masonic, £2200 on the stock, £6OO on the furniture and £2900 on the building. Hie insurances on the shops amounted to £6OO. Patchett’s stock and fittings were insured for £250, but Sowman’s insurance is not available.
