THE COUNCIL VACANCY.
THE AGAR INCIDENT. ATTITUDE OF CITIZENS’ ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Christchurch Citizens’ Association was held yesterday afternoon to consider the matter of Mr C 1\ .\gar'< resignation from tb. City Council. Mr H. Broadhead, the secretary, stated after the meeting that the association had decided upon a course of action hut such action would not he put into operation until the City Council had met and decided what it intends to do in the matter. MR J. W. BEAN LAND’S POSITIONMr J. IV. Beanland, who is up to the present the only candidate announced for the vacancy stated last night that ho desired, if possible to save the city bound if Mr Agar was nominated by the Citizens’ Association, ho (Mr Beanland) would retire. But if the association nominated any other candidate he would still reserve tho right to enter the nominated. Regarding the mayoralty, ho wished to disclaim any intention of standing, if I>r Thacker accepted Mr Agar’s challenge and there was a straight-out contest between the two.
