A cable message from Melbourne announces the death of Claude Bantock, the comedian. Tho figure of Mercury in silver or white metal within a gilt oval bearing the title of the corps and surmounted by a crown has been approved as the badge of officers ot the Royal corps of signals. A cap badge of similar pattern has been approved for other ranks. At the conclusion of his lecture on “ The Economics of the German Indemnity ” last night. Professor J. B. Condliffe was assed to define “ economics.” The lecturer said that a great many people had little idea what was meant bv “ economics,” He would define it as th© study of the acts of men and women in the ordinary business of getting a living and the study of the wavs in which they organised in order to orovide themselves with goods and services.
