FREIGHT REDUCTIONS.

SWEEPING CHANGES, By Telegraph—Pre*« Association—ConvTie-ht Australian and N.Z. Cable Association (Received June IY, 2 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 16. To stimulate cargo movements from the Pacific Coast ports to- Australia, the General Steamship Corporation, the Oceanic Steamship Company, the Canadian Government Marine, and the Canadian-Australian Line have agreed to sweeping freight rate reductions, to become effective immediately. The tariff in regard to canned salmon is reduced from twenty-live to twenty dollars per ton, portable houses from eighteen to fifteen dollars per ton, and wall board by the same amount. The lumber rate will remain at twenty dollars per 1000 feet. The rates will apply to Auckland, Wellington, Sydney and Melbourne.
