PRESS COMMENT. By Telegraph—?r»i» Aeeneiation—-Ccpyri*hl “ Tho Times ** Service. LONDON, June 15. ,e The Times ” in a leader discussing President Harding’s dispatch says that it will be welcomed by all the peoples of the Empire, for all the best minds have long looked forward to an Anglo American agreement as a great savin’ idea]. What the whole world wants is an effective barrier against new wars. A unique -opportunity now pre sents itself. If is noteworthy that United State? Government journals to-day publish reasons why the Anglo-Japanese alliance should be renewed. These reasons are: Firstly, that it is desirable that Britain should exercise a friendly moderating influence at Tokio; secondly, the establishment of the Pacific position would ensure peace; thirdly, Britain’s influence would be stronger at Tokio to assist in any controversies between Japan and Australia and Canada; * fourthly, Japan would be strengthened as a bulwark against Bolshevism moving towards the shores of the Western Pacific; fifthly, alliance with a great coloured race in India proves that Britain does not recognise the colour bar. *
