RELIEF WORK WAGES.
GTAGO WORKERS 5 PROTEST. [Per. Press Association.! DUNEDIN, June 14. A deputation from the Otago branch of the New Zealand Workers’ Union vaitr l on M- C. E. Statham, M.P.. to protest against tho State's alleged broach of agreement. Mr Borehnm stated that the local labour office was cutting down the wages of men now being sent into the country by 25 to 33 1-3 per cent on tin- agreement rates, showing the mistakenness of the acting-Prime Ministor’s statement. The union condemned the relief business as wrong and asked why men should go into the country where everything was dearer at a wage that they could not live on. Mi Statham said that he believed tlio Government’s principle of paying low rales was quite wrong. He promised to endeavour to rectify what appeared to bo at least a moral breach of the agreement.
