H.M.S. CHATHAM.
Men of the Chatham were entertained yesterday by Hie Ladies’ Auxiliary Committee to high tea and a dance in the Navy League Hall. During the evening songs by Aliss F. Hamerton were very much enjoyed, ns were items by Chief Stoker Seask and Able Seaman* Philips. Leading Stoker Hop son acted as AI.C. Leading Stoker Mommery spoke in appreciation of the
good time the ladies of the auxiliary liad given them, and hearty cheers, followed by “ Auld Sang Syne” and the National Anthem, closed a very pleasant evening. The Ladies' Auxiliary were the guests of Commodore Hotham during the afternoon.
Alessrs H. J. ATarriner (president). J. J. DougaM (vice-president) and O. J. Treleaven (secretary) of the Navy League and members of the committee of the Women’s Auxiliary branch paid an official visit to H.AT-S. Chatham yesterday afternoon. They were shown over the vessel by Commodore A. G. Hotham and later were entertained at afternoon tea on board.
All leave was stopped on the Chatham, this morning, and there was a busy scene on her decks as the sailors pulled down gangways and pulled in the boats on the davits, which had been hoisted out to give more room to visitors. The vessel sailed at about one o’clock this afternoon for Picton, from whence she will sail on Saturday for Wellington.
