FOOTBALL

Footballers up in the Hurunui are under a debt of gratitude to Mr. John McTaggart for the handsome Challenge Cup which he has presented to the Hurunui Sub-Union, and which is now on view in the window of the establishment of Jones & Sons, Manufacturing Jewellers, 278 High Street, near Hereford Street. Mounted on a solid ebony base, it presents a most imposing appearance, measuring 15 inches in height, while it is 9 inches in diameter at the top. Three embossed handles give it an exceptionallv rich looking effect. On it, beautifully engraved, is this inscription:— The JOHN McTAGGART CUP. Presented to Hurunui Football Sub-Union, 1921. This is the third cup of similar design which Messrs. Jones £c Sons have supplied recently. One was supplied to the Hororata Trotting Club, It was the same design, but smaller. The other cup was supplied to a Trotting Club in Dunedin. The Cup will be on view in Messrs. Jones & Sons’ window for a few days, and it is well worth inspection. One of the features of Jones & Sons’ business is the manufacture of cups and challenge shields, orders being received from all parts of New Zealand.
