WELLINGTON CARPENTERS.
* AN INTERESTING DEVELOPMENT. [Per Press Association.]] WELLINGTON, March 1. The secret-arv of the Carpenters’ Union says that, about seventy men have left their jobs since Friday, as the result of the employers’ decision to limit the wage to 2s 9d an hour. He says that the union is not applying coercion. Some members have accepted the reduced wages but these are comparatively few. An interesting development is the decision of the union to engage under the guild system in the business of building or altering houses, believing it can compete successfully with the present contractors. The dispute has been referred to the Arbutration Court nnd a Dominion Conference arranged.
