Cabinet’s further consideration of the Australian Labour Party’s demand has been adjourned till to-morrow. It is considered probable that a compromise will be reached. ADELAIDE, January 19. The proposal that the Englishmen should play a match at Maryborough has been abandoned. LONDON, January IS. General Strickland, in a letter to the Deputy-Mayor of Cork, referring to ’lie attempts to murder police, gives a warning that the present state of affairs in the city cannot be allowed to continue. _ He will l>o compelled to take drastic measures to secure the lives of tho Crown forces against the cowardly attacks made by assassins. He is prepared to give the inhabitants every consideration, but says that the cause of peace cannot be promoted by their passive attitude.
