ANNUAL CONFERENCE. THE FIREBLICHT MENACE. [Pbk Press Association ! WELLINGTON, January 1-’-The Hon W. Nosworthy, at the openin- o! the annual conference of tno Now Zealand Association of Nurserymen toiday, said the increase of thirtyone in the number of nurserymen registered under the regulations was, considering the conditions, eminently satisfactory. Amended regulations ior the grading of fruit for export were now being prepared, and shortly would be placed before tho Cabinet. Ho hoped New Zealand nurserymen, in the future, would be able to meet all the requirements of New Zealand growers, lie assured the conference that he was doing his best to cope with the menace of lireblight, and was trying to confine tho outbreak to the present area by drawing a wide belt around it. He did not intend to enter into the question of compensation beyond saying that it was not the intention of the Goverment to foot the bill for every disease that found its way into the country.
