EVANS-GANGE CONCERT.
Miss Amy Evans and Mr Fraser Gauge, assisted by Mr Harold Elvins, opened a short return visit, at tho Choral Hall, last evening, the size of the audience might have been greater, but the enthusiasm displayed made demonstrative tho welcome extended each petrformer being loudly applauded on making an initial appearance. The personal triumphs for the vocalists and pianist, and the. musical feast for the audience that marked tho earlier visit to Christchurch of i/he talented trio, were again in evidence. ■Miss Evans’s beautiful soprano voice, with Us wide range, dramatic power and attractive sweetness, was heard to considerable advantage. Her opening number was “Pleutez, !?. Os Yeux" (“Le Cid,” Massenet), “One nine Day, from “Madame Butterfly,” being given os an encore. Later, she sang “Angels Ever Bnght and Pair " (Handel), The Sailors Wife ’ (H. P. Burleigh), and, with -tv La ci darem,” from Mozart’s Don_ Giovanni,” in addition to responses cnoores - Her pleasing personality added to the charm of her voice, and it was evident that her popularity will bo well maintained during her present season. Mr Fraser Lrango 10 also a general favourite. His magnihcent bass voice was well tested hnd proved ? adoring of various songs, whether a oaiiad or more ambitious composition. Anions his contributions to the evening's entertain” ment were “ Vittorial Vittoria” (Carissimi), */D Ia (Huge Hulbcrt) " Galway by the uea (Barclay), and several encore responses. ““ Harold Elvins, as solo pianist and accompnnist, was also cordially received. He opened with Ballade ” and Arabesque in G-Major (Debussy), and later gave “Polonaise in E ♦ JOr .( , .He too answered the insistence of the audience, who found him greatly t. j > r v lng ’ encores to each of the Bchcduletk contributions. -Altogether tho concert was most delightful.
