Mr T. H. Dnvey was still too unwell yesterday to attend the meeting of the Tramway Board, but ,it was reported that he was iniproving rapidly. Three or four applications for transfers in this connection are made, to the board each meeting, and several were revived at the last, meeting. • In some cases the vendor .had been in occupation only a few months, and asked uu to £3OO upon his purchase price. In such cases the transfer was not considered by the board unless the applicant could show that permanent improvements had been made to the property to Justify the inerbase; Mr H- D. M. Haszard, Commissioner of Crown Lands, stated that ho considered that a discharged soldier who had been repatriated, and desired for some reason to leave the distnet should ■ be content to Set out of his .property at, the price at which he had been assisted to acauire it There wore, genuine cases in which men h'M been taken from the district by their employers, and (inch cases were considered on their- merit.
