A largo valve of the air tank failed to dose, admitting ‘a large quantity of water into tho living spaces, and - the boat went to the bottom. The crow dosed tbo valve, and expelled the water. Tho storage batteries gave out fumes, and the crow retreated to the bow section and began to drill a; hole in tho side. The air was very foul, Tho steamship Atlantis, twenty-five hours later, saw tho bow, and a shirt waving through a small hole that had been made. Tho Atlantis pumped air, into tho submarine, nnd sent a wireless to another steamship, and, then stood by. The engineer of tho Atlantis worked eight hours with a hand tool before he finished cutting a ■ halo largo enough to release the crow, who were suffering from the effects of hod air.
