* MOTES BY “CROW-BLACK.” The Christchurch Poultry Club will meet on Monday night. The September monthly meeting of tile New Zealand XJtility 'Poultry Club will bo held on Tuesday evening. At a meeting of the Canter miry Egg Circle on Saturday night last, a number of the committee expressed the opinion that the producer needed a higher price. It was pointed out that no man worked longer hours than the poultryman, and he should receive full value for his produce. It was resolved to guarantee the summer supply at 2a per dozen. Mr Higginbotham, of Auckland, has purchased Mr H. W. Beck’s team now competing in the Mount Albert egglaying competition. They are in twefth position. Tho many friends of Mr Arthur Smith will regret to learn ho is not enjoying tho best of health, and is under the doctor’s care at present. The Ellesmere poultry show takes place next month. Mr Barnett, who usually has charge of this section of the agriculture and pastoral show, assures rao the 1520 schedule, to be issued shortly, will attract a largo poultry entry. Mr J. H. Shaw has been invited to judge tho heavy breeds. At a meeting of the Woolsten Tanneries Poultry Club, on Thursday week, Mr TV. Wigglosworth gave an address on “Feeding Poultry.” The speaker was listened to with great interest by a good number of members, Mr Wigglesworbh answered many questions, and the members thanked him for enlightening them on matters which had taken several years'of experimenting and close observation for liim to find put. During tbo evening it was mentioned that the membership of tho club had increased to forty-two. Mr H. Williams has removed to his rnodol utility poultry yards, in Somerbold Street, Sproyclou.

The flock learns of six nro going fairly strong, J. Gunn’s 8.0. being in the van with 291 eggs, with Thomas Dowthwaite’s Silver Wyandottes next, 236, and !*’■ I). Gibson’s Orpingtons 236 eggs. H. and T. Meadows’s single duck has laid daily for 99 davs since coming to profit. TTOOBSTON. Mr IV. Gorton donated a special prize for the bird that laid tho most eggs in the months of Juno, July and August, a condition being that the eggs must average 2oz each for the last month. The following competitors’ birds laid over sixty eggs;- J. Green 68, J. Farrar 66, *l. Morrison 66, J. Grafton 61, G. Russell 63, and J> Irvine 63. Mr Morrison’s lord was adjudged the winner, as the first two named competitors’ birds’ eggs did not comply with the weight condition. • Trie following are the results for August:—
