HARBOUR COLLISION.
FINDING Off COURT OF INQUIRY. [Per Pres* AnacmTiON.! WELLINGTON, September 4. The Marine Court, which inquired into fho collision between the harbour lorry steamer Duchess and the linerKuahine, on July 27. gave ite decision this morning. The Court found tlrnt the casualty occurred through tho Duchess overrunning her distance in a thick fog, while approaeliiug Queen’s Wharf. Although the master of tho Duchess, John Lowry, took tho same precautions, and adopted tho usual methods in approaching the wharf through tho fog, as on previous occasions, the casualty was contributed to by an error of judgment on his part in estimating the .speed of tho vessel, nnddii running at full speed for three minutes into the increasing fog, before reducing the speed. Tho master's certificate would be returned, but he was ordered to pay half tho costs of tho inquiry. The Court expressed the opinion that thp Wellington Harbour Board should instftl a Rm signal at tho Queen’s Wharf, and have it sounded during a fog.
