SLEEPY GUARD HOAXED.
KOPENIOK TRICK AT FRENCH CAVALRY BARRACKS.
A hoax resembling that of Kopenick in a Berlin suburb years ago has been played by a smart young Frenchman on tho guard of the cavalry barracks at Versailles, near Baris. At i a.m, the guard wars turned out by a military looking iiguro in the regulation army kepi and long cavalry cloak with the three stripes of a captain. Tho officer was unknown to the men but himself as the captain for the week. Having distributed a perfect hail of punishment to the sleeping soldiers, lie went to the stables. There ho found tho guard asleep, and having soundly rated the men. he ordered two horses to be. saddled. A lew minutes later tho captain rodo away on one of the horses, leading the other by the bridle. He has not been seen since, and tho cavalry regiment is minus two of its best chargors.
