Tho death is announced at Bournemouth of Mr Charles Allen Wray, formerly a stipendiary magistato in Now Zealand. The late Mr "Wray, a sou of the late Captain L. H. Wray, 11. N., was born in id-id. lie was educated at the Royal Naval bchoul, New Cross, near Loudon, joined the Indian Navy at Bombay in Idob, and served through the Persian war of 1856-57 and altorwanls iu tho Nrival Brigade, Bengal, 1857-59 (indian mutiny;. On the abolition of the service he became entitled to a pension, and went to China, where lip gained experience in a legal office at Hongkong. Ho arrived in Auckland in 18Gj(, and tor a time was engaged in survey work. On the outbreak of the Titokowaru rebellion in 1808, he joined the colonial forces under Colonels M’Donnell and Whitmore, and served as a captain in the Now Zealand Militia during the war on the Most Coast. On tho cessation of hostilities be was appointed to the charge of confiscated lands on the "West Coast, and afterwards was Commissioner of Crown Lands for tho Most Coast district North Island. In 1877 he was appointed Resident Magistrate for Patea and Hawcra, and was transferred to Timaru in 1888. He was married, in) 1865. to a. daughter of tho la to Mat George "Williams, of Remuera, Auckland and had three sons and tlwrea daughters.
