ANTI-ARBITRATIONISTS.
TYPOGRAPHICAL UNION RESOLUTION.
The annual general meeting of the Wellington Typographical Union, held on Saturday last, was la rgely attended.
The election of olficers resulted as follows President, Mr T. Sheerin; vieo-prcsiclcnt, Mr R. H. Stickney; secretary-treasurer and organiser, Mr 0. 11. Chapman; board members, Messrs G. T. Savogo, A, D. Robbie and !’. White; trustees, Messrs A. Foldnick and D. Rntcliffe. The following were elected delegates of flic union to the biennial conference of the New Zealand Federated Typographical Association: Messrs G. 1.1. Chapman. T. Sheerin, A. D. Bobbie and R. H. Slickuey.
The following motion was carried:— ‘■’That inasmuch as after twenty-live years' trial of compulsory arbitration, members of the union find themselves (he lowest paid body of craftsmen in the world, having sunk from more than double the wage scale of Great Britain to a lower standard—l.lo per cent below the average wages paid for similar service in America. 00 per cent below the South African standard (which wo formerly enjoyed), 90 percent below Australian conditions (where we formerly had a 20 per cent advantage), and b0 per cent lielow the Japanese, it is desirable in mir members’ best interests to sever mir connection with the industrial conciliation and arbitration .system; and Hint, a ballot of the union be taken io decide whether the union cancels its registration under the Industri.il Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 008. and its amendments.”
