WELCOME RAIN.
HEAVY DOWNPOUR IN CITY
After a fine day yesterday with an. occasional thunder cloud and even a light shower of rain, the weather broke at about midnight, and very heavy rain from the south-west fell throughout the night. At noon to-day tho weather was still overcast, with prospects of further showers. Lawns and gardens will be greatly benefited by tho downpour, as grass plots were looking very burned-out, and in kitchen gardens particularly growth had been very slow for a. week or two The rain, if general in the country, will bo welcome to farmers.
