IFrom Our Correspondent.] WELCOME HOME. j On Thursday last a welcome home i social was tendered to the returned sol- | diets of Spreydon, Hillmorton and Tankervillo in the Coronation Hall. The Mayor, Mr Manhire, presided, and addresses of welcome were given by the | Her Mr Mnchattio and Mr Sykes. Misses Sergeant, Edwards, Brackenridge, Clifford (2), M’Harrow, and Messrs Lunn, Carter, Hunnibell, Sutton and Brosnan contributed items. Dancing followed, and was kept up till an early hour. PERSONAL, Sergeant B. W.. Hayes, youngest son of Air Hayes, Selwyn Street, recently returned home on the Remuera after nearly live yehrs’ setvice. He left New j Zealand with the Fourtli Reinforcement, find saw considerable service on Gallipoli and later in France. Shortly before the armistice was signed ho .was appointed gas instructor in England, I and On the cessation of hostilities was I appointed to tho Graves Commission; j | which position he held until embark- I ing for Home. Sergeant Hayes was married in England, arid his wife accompanied him home on the Remuera. At the recent Trinity College musical examinations several Spreydon children have been successful. . Residents will learn with regret that Mr and Mrs AV. Monday,, of Somerfield Street, are leaving the district. They intend to reside in. Sydenham. The newly appointed head master ,of Somertiekl School has. purchased Mr Monday’s house. Thus for the first time in tile history of the school the head master will live in the district and near the school.
