MISS THURSTON'S CASE.

A RESOLUTION RESCINDED. LEAVE NOT GRANTED. The case of Miss Thurston Teas again brought lup at to-day’s meeting of the Hospital Board, ■when it was decided to rescind the resolution, passed at the previous meeting. The Finance Committee reported “ With reference to the resolution passed by the board at the last meeting, by which Miss Thurston was granted an extra eight months leave of absence oil full pay, the following is the opinion of the Controller and AuditorGeneral as contained in a letter to the local Inspector of Audit: — There certainly is no legal title on Miss Thurston’s part to sue for the leave not ta.ken, she having presumably been paid for that period, and leave is ox course, unless the subject of contract or engagement, a matter of privilege and not legal right. On the facts as so far understood here, the Audit Office is of opinion that, if the whole of the pmsent proposition is put into effect, ' a surcharge must ensue for at least a substantial portion of the payment. In view of the above' the committee desires to recommend the board to rescind the resolution passed.” The report of the Finance Committee was adopted.
