Mr and Airs William Henderson (Napier) arrived in Christchurch yesterday, and are staying at the Clarendon. Air and Airs Ivan Holmes (Wellington), who have been in Christchurch for several days, left to-dav for Tim-, aru.
Airs H. A’Court has sold her house in Alansheld Avenue, and will shortly go into Airs White’s house in Feudalton. Air and Mrs Frank Ford (Wellington) arrived in Christchurch to-day pom the north, and are staying at tho Clarendon. On Friday evening last Air and Airs W. Trustum gave a. kitchin tea for Aliss Rachael Ellis, who is to he married to-morrow. All and Airs J. H, Cock (Nelson) have left Christchurch for Alelhounie and Air and Airs C. H. Cock (Nelson) have gone to Dunedin. Air and Airs William Al’Leod (Palmerston South), and Air and Airs R. Al. Robertson (Leeston) left Christchurch to-day for Alclbourne. ■The engagement is announced of Miss Myra M/Causland, second dansh~ ter of Airs F. Al’Causland, Christchurch. to Air Francis Woods, late of Blenheim.
The engagement is announced of Miss Grace Curry, second youngest daughter of the late William Gurrv. of Akaroa, to Walter J. Alurphv, of Winton Street, St Albans.
In honour of Christchurch tramwaymen who have returned from active service, the Tramway Board has issued invitations for a progressive euchre party and dance to he held in the Art' Gallery on Thursday, October 30. A dance was'held last evening in the Lyttelton Excelsior Hall by members of tire Trinity Tennis Club in aid of the new court funds. There were about sixty couples present. Mrs T. The women’s section of the Navy Deague, assisted by members of the Automobile Association, took a party of rorty. officers and cadets from the Waiter a tor a motor trip into the country on Imday, and afterwards entertained tfiem at tea in the Navy League Hall.
Mis H. D. A eland and Mrs J. Stevenson, who have designed and cut the dresses for the Potpourri, with the assistance of Mrs Tom Cowlishaw, have also the help now of Miss Dorothy Ooombs who is in town, and has agreed gladly to give her assistance which was so valuable in the Reveille.
Air Dick Aloloney, who was a principal in “The Diggers” is taking part in tho “Potpourri.” Ho will sing, “The Laddies that Fought and Won,” with a chorus of sixteen girls dressed to represent the Allies- 'The girls taking part m this number are Misses Aloa Andrews, Byllie Maloney, Molly Sevraour, D. Owen, Lulu Al’Murray, C. Saunders, L Asquith, D. Scott, D. Thomas, Freda iluims, Tribe, Flanagan, Logan, Peggy Forde and Hannighan. , There passed away at her residence, Ballyleaney,’ ’ Domain Terrace, Spreydon, on October 13, after a brief illness, an old identity of Spreydou in the person of Mrs Sarah Orimley. The deceased lady was the youngest daughter of the late John Colvin, of ‘•'Colvin’s Hill,” County Armagh, Ireland, and came to Lew Zealand with her four children in the Rakaia in 1881. Her kindly disposition and Christian character made her loved and esteemed by all uho knew her. She is survived by her husband, three sons and three daughters. The interment took place at the Addington Cemetery, the pallbearers being Messrs J. and T V priraley (sons), and. R. G- Thomas and ' • ’!• Aston (sons-in-law). -The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev O.
