(The late Viscount Astor was born in New York in March, 1848. He wa e educated by private tutors and was admitted to the Par in 1875. He was a member of tho Legislature of tho State of New York in 1878 and 1881. H e was United States Minister to Itah* from 1882 to 1885. In 1899 ho became a naturalised British subject. The lato Viscount Astor was the author of several novels. The heir to the viscountcy, which was created in 1917, is tho Hon Waldorf Astor.)
