CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION,

The annual meeting oi the Canterbury U QW i ag^A i EOClation WM h«ld last evening, Mr F. D. Eesteven presiding. The annual report slated that the associaIron now oonaistod of sis clubs, with a total membership of 735. The number of members wno ha-a seen active service was 356. It was anticipated that all clubs would experience a greatly incroooed membership during tbs coming season. as most of ths memhere away with the Expeditionary Force had now returned. Every effort should bo made to induce returned men to take up this form Oi healthy recreation. It was confidently anticipated that regattas would ho revived in the coming season, and thereby create kc-m competition among all clubs for tho B.C.L. Cup. Tho finances were in a very satisfactory position, mo receipts for the year be-ng £st 18b 4d including £36 3* brought iorwsrd iron tho previous yew, and the expenditure £7 6# iOd, leaving a credit balance of £l4 lie M. The thanks of the association were due to tho Christchurch Drainage Board for the attention given to the river Everything possible was being done to ensure the good order of the river during the coming ssaocn. Thatka were also due to the Canterbury Bowing Ciub for tho use of its rooms, and to the Pres*.

The Otago Rowing Association wrote stating that it had given notice of motion for the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association to rescind the amendment oi 1917 with regard to the definition ol a junior oarsman and sculler, and to ask, that the old rule be revertod to, which allowed a man to win junior races in. two separate seasons before he became a senior. It was decided to reply that the Canterbury association was against the proposal, holding that the cne-year rule was working satisfactorily. The president reported that the Drainage Board was doing good work towards deepening the Avon between the Union club's sheds and Mila Post, but it was a. very hard ta,-k without proper dredges.
