FIREMEN WARRIORS.

ROLL OF HONOUR UNVEILED. AN IMPORTANT CEREMONY. Lyttelton paid a tribute on Saturday evening to the members of its Fire Brigade who have served at the front. A Roll of Honour was unveiled in the Lyttelton Fire Station by the Mayor of Lyttelton (Air W. T. Lester) in the presence of a large number of visitors, and of members of the brigade. A dainty light banquet was provided, during which a number of toasts were honoured, as follows: “The King,” “The Returned Men,” “ The Army and Navy,” “ The Borough Councillors,” and ‘‘The Visitors.”

The Alayor, in unveiling the roil of honour, which had been artisticallv carved in solid oak by Airs B. Brown, said he was proud to have the privilege of being present at what was oortaimy one of the most historic meetings held at the Lyttelton Fire Station. They had met that night to pay a tribute of respect, to those most worthy members of the brigade who had so nobly answered the call of duty. Fortunately all who had gone from the Lyttelton Fire Brigade to serve at the -i-Tont h.<rd returned, or were returning, safely. The residents of Lyttelton fully realised the sterling work of the fine fighters, who had voluntarily given their services to safeguard life and property in the borongh. The tablet which lie was about to unveil was a work of art, and reflected much credit on its designer. The Alayor, after unveiling the roll of honour, read the list of names engraved thereon, as follows ; Private P. Radcliffe, Bombardier AM’Auliffo, Corporal E. R. Trotter, Gunner E. L. Wyeth. Private B. Jones, Sergeant A, C. Sinclair, Gunner W. Semton, Quartermaster-Sergeant J. E Tibbie. Addresses were also given by tho Revs J. R. Hew I and and G. Frost, Councillors J. H. Collins, 0. Alom’s, J. P. Norton, and F. G. Norton, a.nd by Mr A. Stevens, representing the Hetu mod Soldiers’ Association- During the evening a number of enjoyable musical and elocutiona.ry selections were contributed by Messrs A. Merrifield, E. Warner. TV. Wright and W G. Carson. Mr Merrifield and Mr E. Warner were the accompanists at the piano. Five years’ service medals were presented by Superintendent Carson to Firemen A. M’Cormiok and D. Barnford.
