The report presented by the Welsh Baptist Union at Aberavon stated that owing to low stipends (many of which were less than £IOO a year), and the high cost of living, a number of pastors had thrown up v tho church, to become coal miners, thereby quadrupling their earnings but leaving the church without ministers.
