ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.

TO BE UNDERTAKEN IN AEROPLANE. LONDON, September 24. Dr L. F. Cope, leader of the forthcoming Antarctic expedition, interviewed, stated that preparations for a flight to the South Polo were well advanced. Experts were designing a plane, and he was negotiating with one of the foremost airmen in the world to take the place of General Lee, deceased, as chief of the aeronautical staff. Dr Cope also intends to us© an aeroplane in order to map the Antarctic from the air during a six years’ expedition on the ice. Sir E. Shackleton has agreed that it is practicable to nse an aeroplane which must have great climbing capacity and be able to carry four men and provisions for at least a month. The experts are convinced that they will be able to design a plane which can climb ten thousand feet. Skids instead of wheels will enable the plane to land on ice or snow. The airman will also act as a pilot to the ship through the ice, , pointing out jrco channels. Ernest Joyce will bo second in command.
